To develop a headband that enclosed Bluetooth technology and modern sensors in a design that expressed speed and durability while being comfortable too wear both on a helmet or right on the head.
Precision Sports Devices (PSD) came to us with a patented football quarterback training concept. While they had the technology worked out, they had no actual product to put the required sensors and feedback components into. This being their first product, they also had no design identity developed, requiring exploration into finding the correct esthetic for the product.
We began development by looking at the user requirements. While mostly used directly on the head or over a ball cap, accommodations were also needed to fit on football helmets. This required looking at head ergonomics and helmet designs to find restraints on the design. Because the helmet adds a great deal of circumference to the device, it was decided that the design would require two different straps. One, elastic, which is more comfortable to wear directly on the head. The second, rubber, which grips the smooth helmet surface better.
Creating the Design Identity was the next task. Through discussions with the owners at PSD we settled on creating a sporty and durable look for the product. Through a number of computer sketch renderings, we worked together to find the concept that brought about the best balance between style and robustness.
From there, we developed CAD models that combined the aesthetic look of the preferred design concept, the ergonomic requirements and enclosed the internal components needed to make the device work. These CAD models where then used to generate computer renderings of the product for PSD to use in marketing and press release assets.
As a peripheral product to sell a complete product solution, we developed two carry cases. One that holds a singe unit with charging capability and another that holds four of the smaller cases, which can then charge all four units inside. Storage room for a tablet is also included.
This product is still in development, and we look forward to bringing you updates as we progress toward a final product.
Working closely with the owners at PSD, we developed a product that was beyond what they had ever imagined. The design and computer rendering have helped them create even more excitement behind this product and has caught the eye of many potential investors.
Beta testing of the product is happening at the owner’s alma mater, Colorado State University. That is how the Buff’s logo was chosen for the renderings.
